Cancer Danger With Your Cell Phone

People%20ph.jpgYou might at a risk of getting brain tumor when you use your cellphone the next time. Sounds really scary but then this is true. Recent research has found out that there can be an increase in two types of brain tumors. Cell phones are more like radios than traditional telephones in your home. They emit low levels of radiofrequency energy (RF) in the microwave range while being used. They also emit very low levels of RF when in the stand-by mode. Using a cell phone can place the radiation antenna close to the user’s brain and this can lead to the absorption of comparatively large amounts of electromagnetic energy. The first kind of tumor is the Acoustic neuromas, also called schwannomas which is a non-cancerous tumor that develops on the nerve that connects the ear to the brain. The tumor usually grows slowly. As it grows, it presses against the nerves responsible for hearing and balance. Radiosurgery is usually the standard treatment for this.Hearing loss, vertigo and facial numbness are the results of this. Studies proved that the tumors were significantly larger among mobile phone users.

The other type of tumor in question is glioma which is a type of primary central nervous system (CNS) tumor that arises from glial cells. The most common site of involvement is the brain, but they can also affect the spinal cord or any other part of the CNS, such as the optic nerves. Gliomas can be either benign (slow growing) or malignant (fast growing). Chances of survival depends on tumor size, location and the patient's age.
This study showed that long term use of cell phones could lead to brain tumor and there is a big argument going on. But what ever said, prevention in better than cure and we have to be careful before it is too late. Technology exits to help us not harm us and we need to be responsible from now on.
